I joined fellow birder from Delhi Atul Jain on a pelagic birding trip off the coast of Beruwala in Sri Lanka. Pelagic birds (also called oceanic birds) are birds (for reasons best known to them) that live on the open sea for months returning to land only for breeding. We made two sorties to discover a very rough sea / ocean. It was a thrilling experience to be out at sea in a small fishing boat especially in rough weather! Ten minutes into each boat trip my stomach transformed into a washing machine churning acid and bile. Photography (even with a small camera) was virtually impossible because of the turbulent waters.
We stayed at the popular Serendib beach resort in Bentota near Beruwala (90km south of Colombo).
I stayed at my favorite Galle Face Hotel (old wing) in Colombo on my way back to Bangalore.
